Valid, reliable measures of food environments in Latino communities is essential in understanding barriers to healthy diet behaviors in a population at risk for cardiovascular disease. Pasquale Rummo, a doctoral student in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health studying nutrition, investigated decades of retail food outlet data and conducted his own field-based census of Durham County, North Carolina, to create new knowledge that will help officials find ways to create policies that bring healthier eating, and lifestyles, to North Carolina’s neighborhoods.
