“When something so seemingly ordinary can have such an extraordinary effect on your child, and not in a good way, your whole perspective changes. It’s incredibly scary because you have no idea that there is a problem until something happens and you’re forced to react to it. It affects your entire life, your family dynamic, your relationships, your physical environment, everything.” Misty and Chad Meade of Denver, Colorado

The Meades have never been to Chapel Hill, but when their son, Colton, suffered a severe reaction to peanuts as a toddler, they decided that the best way to help their son and others like him was to help advance research. The couple generously supports critical research in the Department of Pediatrics at the UNC School of Medicine aimed at increasing tolerance over time with the long-term goal of developing treatments for food allergies.
