“The Longiotti Family Lobby” at UNC Family Medicine Center honors Nazzareno Longiotti

In June 2022, the UNC Family Medicine Center lobby in Chapel Hill was renamed “The Longiotti Family Lobby” in recognition of a generous gift from Mr. Samuel Longiotti to honor his father, Nazzareno Longiotti.

This gift’s endowment will strive to honor Nazzareno Longiotti’s commitment to family, responsibility and equitable support of others regardless of their economic status by supporting the UNC Family Medicine Center. The endowment will help ensure access to necessary equipment and technology, safe and comforting facilities, and innovations in care and training.

“This generous gift provides resources to transform care for Family Medicine patients and make our Center a welcoming and innovative place to work and learn for years to come,” said Margaret Helton, MD, chair of the Department of Family Medicine.

Originally from Corropoli, Italy, Nazzareno Longiotti immigrated to the United States and settled in Greenville, Pennsylvania, where he and his brothers and sisters worked to support the family. He was very conscious of his obligations and responsibilities and worked to instill these values in his children. Nazzareno’s favorite quotation was, “You always have to take care of your family.”

The values of commitment, equality and taking care of family are also shared by UNC Family Medicine, said Dr. Helton. “It is fitting that the lobby of our Family Medicine Center is named for the Longiotti family.”
