When Sarah Jean Phipps ’19 was in high school, the thought of paying for college was daunting. Even when she was accepted to UNC, her excitement was tempered with the reality of her older sisters’ experiences paying for college: One graduated with tens of thousands of dollars in student loans, while the other was still a student, piling up debt each semester.

Then, Sarah Jean received a “life changing” email that read: “You have been selected as a Carolina Covenant Scholar.” This distinction gave Sarah Jean the opportunity to graduate debt-free from Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in public health.

Watch Sarah Jean as she expresses her gratitude to the donors who support the Carolina Covenant.
