"Dotson’s anecdotes and advice will help them to develop their own voice..."

“It’s lovely to have that mix of voices who are still working in the woodpile trying to tell [students] ‘Well this worked for me; it might work for you,’” said Bob Dotson, the inaugural John H. Stembler Jr. Professional in Residence at the UNC School of Media and Journalism.

For a week in September 2015, Dotson, a 40-year NBC News veteran who was the face of TODAY’s “American Story,” shared his unique storytelling perspective with Carolina broadcast journalism students. For some students, Dotson’s anecdotes and advice will help them to develop their own voice and continue a rich Carolina tradition of journalistic storytelling.

The bequest of the late 1965 UNC alumnus John H. Stembler Jr. of Atlanta created the $3.25 million endowment that supports Carolina’s award-winning broadcast program and makes Stembler Professional in Residence visits possible.
