“If you can stop somebody from binge drinking, you might prevent them from ultimately becoming alcoholics. We know that people who binge drink, especially in their teenage years, are much more likely to become alcoholic-dependent later in life.”

Dr. Todd Thiele is the Director of UNC’s Behavioral Neuroscience Program. He and his team of researchers are leaders in the nation’s fight against addictive behaviors, specifically related to alcohol and alcohol dependency.

Thiele’s work was recently published in the journal Biological Psychiatry showcasing new findings that may shed light on future treatments to curb binge drinking, ultimately helping to prevent alcohol dependency. “The puzzle is starting to come together, and is telling us more than we ever knew about before,” Thiele said.
