Clear goals, Carolina memories

“Without the worry of meeting payments or bogging myself in debt, I’ve been able to focus on my learning. I can work toward becoming a scientist.”

Noah Miller ’19 was determined to attend Carolina even without financial aid, but receiving the Carolina Covenant Scholarship and the Johnston Scholarship made his decision all the sweeter.

Noah entered his first semester with clear goals: to grow as a scientist and pursue a career in neuroscience research. “My financial aid has been central to my ability to grow and thrive as a student at UNC,” he said. “Without the worry of meeting payments or bogging myself in debt, I’ve been able to focus on my learning. I can work toward becoming a scientist.”

Toward this goal, Noah has devoted much of his efforts toward science. He is co-president of the Carolina Neuroscience Club, and works in a research lab. But he’s also made time to give back to the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid by serving in several groups and advisory boards. “My Carolina experience was largely captured outside of the classroom,” he said. “My growth has stemmed from both my time in the lab and in building a relationship with my now-fiancée. We met during our first year, when we lived in the same dorm, and grew closer each year. I proposed to her at the Davie Poplar. UNC has certainly changed my life for the better.”
