For Bryan Tucker, writing for Saturday Night Live is a dream job — being funny and getting paid for it — but it’s one that takes a lot of hard work. Think about it: Think up something that will make all of us laugh and not a joke you’ve heard before. Do it 50 times more in the next couple of hours and think up a scene that puts them together. Then have your co-workers critique it and maybe throw out your best lines. And do it all over again tomorrow.
Tucker’s dream started at Carolina, writing and performing standup comedy and on UNC Student TV.

Bryan and his wife, Rachael Knott Tucker ’96, funded a scholarship at the UNC School of Media and Journalism, and he returns to Carolina periodically to perform and conduct seminars for students interested in writing for TV to encourage students to, as he says, “push for what they want after graduation, instead of compromising.”
