At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, Diane Pozefsky, a research professor and director of undergraduate studies in the UNC Department of Computer Science, led a team working with IBM Japan to make sure the network worked flawlessly. At the games, she also ran the Internet café at the curling venue, keeping curlers connected to their family and friends back home. Of the athletes who kindly greeted her as “the Internet lady,” she regarded them as wonderful ambassadors to curling, which she still watches every four years.

Diane Pozefsky, a research professor at UNC since 2009, has won several teaching awards within the department and received Carolina Entrepreneurial Initiative Course Development Grant in 2011.
