Carolina is leading the world in clean water and sanitation efforts, according to the 2020 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is committed to working to promote sustainability in the local community and beyond.
The 2020 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings acknowledged this commitment by placing Carolina at 22nd out of 766 institutions worldwide — 2nd in the U.S. — in a measurement of sustainability among establishments of higher education. This measurement is conducted based on Carolina’s adherence to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which are aimed at creating a sustainable world by 2030.
Specifically, Carolina is ranked first in the world for SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. The University also ranked highly in meeting other goals, including being named fourth in the world for SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and 10th for SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
