Serving others through Study Abroad

"There’s so much to see in this world."

"There’s so much to see in this world."

“Look beyond the borders of the United States and travel! There’s so much more to see in this world.”

In fall 2016, UNC senior Quentin Tatum, a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, was accepted into the Honors Semester Abroad Program in London.

He took classes abroad and interned at one of London’s finest surgery clinics. He helped form an alliance between three surgery clinics in terms of finance, staff and physical resources. He organized weekly walks for patients, surveyed homebound patients and attended meetings within the National Health Services of England. He even found time to travel to France, Spain, Italy and Germany. He called the experience “profound.”

A privately funded scholarship will also enable him to engage in a self-designed and directed international travel experience in Australia, where he will conduct public health research in Aboriginal communities.
