“The world changes. Twenty years ago, no one was driving around with a phone pressed against their ear — or looking at a screen. New risks pop up and need to be understood.”

For Rob Foss, a senior research scientist at the UNC Highway Safety Research Center, there is always work to be done to keep America’s drivers safe and innovations to make that possible. For 50 years, that has been the center’s legacy. The “Click it or Ticket” and the Graduated Driver Licensing programs both started at Carolina and were adopted nationwide. Staff researchers at the center still work to reach all drivers with the message to buckle up. Our very own Michael Jordan helped to get that message out in 1988.
