Eclipsing $4.25 Billion

The Campaign for Carolina has eclipsed the $4.25 billion milestone of support for students, faculty, research and service.

YOU have done something truly special.

Because of you, the Campaign for Carolina has surpassed the $4.25 billion milestone we set for ourselves, making this the most successful campaign in the history of the South — and there’s still almost a year to go.

“We’re humbled and incredibly thankful for all the generous donors and volunteers who’ve brought us to this point and believe in Carolina Next: Innovations for Public Good,” said Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz. “At the same time, we know goals remain if we’re to deliver a complete campaign on behalf of our students, our faculty and the people we serve in North Carolina and beyond.”

Many gifts are already at work supporting Carolina’s key strategic priorities while some donors have made pledges that will pay out over a period of time, providing a steady stream of resources. Contributions totaling more than $1 billion have been made through deferred giving vehicles such as bequests, meaning your true impact will be measured over decades.

Way to go, Tar Heels!

As of Jan. 1, 2022, more than 200,000 donors, including more than 90,000 first-time donors, have made almost 641,000 gifts to the Campaign for Carolina.
While 649 of these gifts were for $1 million or more, 83% of the gifts to the campaign have been $1,000 or less.
Almost 3,400 students have contributed to the campaign, totaling more than half a million dollars.
More than 88,000 alums and 10,000 faculty and staff have given to this campaign.
Donors from all 100 North Carolina counties and all 50 states have made gifts to the campaign.
This historic accomplishment makes Carolina just the eighth public university in the U.S. to surpass $4 billion — and the only university in the history of the South to surpass $4.25 billion — in a single campaign.

The Campaign Continues

This is a momentous milestone, but we’re not finished.

As the campaign continues through Dec. 31, 2022, we are recommitting to raise $1 billion for student support, which includes scholarships for undergraduate students as well as fellowship support for graduate and professional students.

We are also focusing on school and unit campaign goals, including support for students, faculty and patients, research, service and the arts at UNC-Chapel Hill.

But we know we’ve got this. Because of YOU.
