Transforming Entrepreneurship

"The skills of entrepreneurial thinking and problem-solving are a natural fit for the liberal arts."

“We think entrepreneurship is a big part of the future of work. The skills of entrepreneurial thinking and problem-solving are a natural fit for the liberal arts. An entrepreneurial education will give Carolina undergraduates a leg up —to find a job, start a company, grow a business, or be a productive member of any organization or enterprise.”

— Dorothy Shuford Lanier

The Shuford family of Hickory, North Carolina — a fifth-generation Carolina family — committed $18 million to the College of Arts and Sciences to expand and advance its burgeoning minor in entrepreneurship. The program is now the Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship. The largest single one-time gift by a living individual or family to the College, the gift will add faculty, internship and program support to meet the growing demand for the minor in the College.
