Owning This Place

"When I zip up the gown and put on my cap, I'm going to feel like I own this place."

“When I zip up the gown and put on my cap, I’m going to feel like I own this place. All of the hard work that I’ve put in for the last four years are worth it. Every late night, every tear, every call back home to my mom, all of them are going to be worth it.”

Jada Harkins Andrews ’18 says Carolina has taught her about who she is as a person. In the classroom, she gained knowledge about broadcast journalism ad political science. Outside of the classroom, she was a member of the Black Student Movement and a dance group. She was an adviser to incoming first-year students. And she conducted her own research in political communication.

“There’s this thing about Carolina — it’s just a feeling of home, and I can’t really describe it, but when you come here, you feel it.”

After graduating in May 2018, she will take her experiences to George Washington University, where she will pursue a master’s degree in media and strategic communication.
