Building a more inclusive scientific community

Currently, women make up less than 20% of STEM leadership positions while Blacks and Hispanics make up less than 10% of the STEM workforce. The Chancellor’s Science Scholars program is looking to change that by targeting students of all backgrounds who plan to pursue doctoral STEM studies.

“I’m excited about the future because our students are getting out there and making their way through their grad programs,” said Thomas Freeman, director of the Chancellor’s Science Scholars and an associate professor of chemistry. “I’m excited to see what they’re going to do as professionals.”

Support Students in STEM

Gifts to the Chancellor's Science Scholars program count toward Carolina's bold goal to raise $1 billion for scholarships by December 2022. And for every $2 million raised, the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust will contribute $1 million to the program, up to a total of $5 million!
