Give Together Scholarship Challenge
Launched with a $10 million gift made by an anonymous Morehead-Cain alumnus, the Give Together Scholarship Challenge aims to raise an additional $10 million to support the Morehead-Cain Scholarship, the oldest and arguably most notable in the nation. The program has been a cornerstone of Carolina’s excellence for more than seven decades, with alumni ranging from state governors to Billboard chart-toppers.

Investing in Young Leaders
The first merit scholarship program established in the United States, the Morehead-Cain Scholarship has attracted talented, high-achieving scholars from across the globe to UNC-Chapel Hill since 1945. Selected scholars receive a world-class education at Carolina, global summer enrichment experiences, access to Discovery Fund grants for opportunities beyond the classroom, and impactful relationships with a network of more than 3,200 Morehead-Cain alumni.
The Give Together Scholarship Challenge runs through December 31, 2022, coinciding with the end of For All Kind: the Campaign for Carolina. When met, the $20 million total will empower the Morehead-Cain Foundation to sustain 75 Morehead-Cain Scholars per class at Carolina. These scholars will rank among the country’s most outstanding undergraduates — of Carolina’s 34 most recent Rhodes Scholars, 31 have been Morehead-Cains.
John Motley Morehead III — Class of 1891 — established the program in 1945. The Gordon and Mary Cain Foundation made it even stronger in 2007. Join these visionaries and our anonymous donor and invest in young leaders, creators and thinkers who will do Carolina proud, for all kind.
